Warrandyte High School Parents
There are many opportunities for parents to remain involved in the education of their children at Warrandyte High School. Whilst the Year Level Leader is the contact person for each level, parents can make contact with a classroom teacher via a note in the Warrandyte High School Planner. In 2012, we are actively pursuing programs which allow parents to communicate more effectively with individual class teachers.
Parent Teacher Interviews
The most obvious way that parents can be involved in their child's education is by coming to Parent Teacher interviews. Children are encouraged to attend with their parents.
School Council
School Council elections are held each year in March. The call for nominations is also published in our newsletter called Gang Gang. Recent editions of Gang Gang are posted on this website on the News and Events page.
Sub Committees of School Council
There are many opportunities to be involved in Sub Committees of School Council. Parents do not have to be a member of School Council in order to be on these committees:
- Parent Association
- Music Support Group
- Finance
- Building and Grounds
- Policy and Planning
Parent Association
Parent Association is a Sub Committee of School Council. Parent Association’s major role is to raise funds. They do this primarily by organising a Trivia Night and facilitate a secondhand book sale. They meet generally meet on the first Monday of the month. Contact the school for the exact dates. The convenor of the Parent Association is Robyn Wallace and she can be contacted through the school on 9844 2749.
Trivia Night
The Warrandyte High School Trivia Night is always a lot of fun. It will be held in May/June each year. Book early as places are limited. Get your friends together and book a table of 10 or we can organise a table for you. In 2012, the Trivia Night will be held on Saturday 2 June in Warrandyte Primary School's multipurpose hall.
Secondhand books
Volunteers from the Parent Association run a valuable service for parents at the end of the year by organising the sale of secondhand books. If you can help, please contact Robyn Wallace, through the school on 9844 2749.
Music Support Group
Parents in Music Support Group actively assist in the Music program in practical ways such as providing meals for students at evening performances and helping to load musical instruments. This group is also has an important fund raising role, assisting in purchasing musical instruments. The President of the Music Support Group is Jason Price and he can be contacted through the school. They generally meet on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm before scheduled music events.
Volunteering in the Canteen
Whilst some staff are employed in the canteen, the school relies heavily on parent volunteers to help in the canteen. Please contact Cheryl Hart, the Canteen Manager, if you can help.
Working Bees
Working bees are essential for the maintenance and improvement of the school’s facilities. Previous working bees have concentrated on gardening, painting, line marking and additional cleaning. No special skills are required! Working bees are held on selected Sunday mornings and a barbeque lunch is provided. In 2012, working bees will be held on Sunday 18 March, 29 April and 28 October 2012.
School Production
Many parents get involved with the school production. In 2011, over 60 parents assisted with set building, finding costumes and sewing, serving suppers and supervising backstage. If you can help in any way in 2011, please contact Executive Assistant, Helene Butterworth, at the school.
