International Students
Curriculum at Warrandyte High School
Warrandyte High School is a vibrant co-educational government school on the fringe of Melbourne with an enrolment of approximately 510 students. Despite its idyllic semi-rural surroundings Warrandyte is an easy 30 minute drive to central Melbourne and is well served by a range of public transport options. There are also a number of major shopping centres and sporting venues close by.
Warrandyte High School can offer students a wide range of curriculum choice in their final years of secondary school. We are an accredited provider of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and work in cooperation with local education providers to allow students an extensive choice of both academic and hands on subjects.
In Year 10 students have the opportunity to access our complete range of VCE and VET (Vocational Education and Training) subjects for the purposes of extension and acceleration. This enables students to add additional subjects to their Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) thus increasing their final score and therefore their opportunity to complete the University course of their choice.
Warrandyte High School shows a commitment to the traditional academic areas of Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Commerce but is also very strong in the area of The Arts. Warrandyte High School consistently achieves recognition in the wider community for its creativity and its award winning students demonstrate an ability to succeed in all areas of their lives.
Mainstream classes are small (26 students maximum) and are characterised by a high level of interaction between the student, their peers and the teacher.
Warrandyte High School has a 1:1 Laptop program that is further supported by a highly developed IT network which enables students to interact digitally with their teachers and each other. International Students are provided with a laptop for use both at school and home to support them with their studies
English Tuition
Extra small group assistance is also available for students who are experiencing language difficulty once attending Warrandyte High School.
English Language Centre
The Warrandyte High School English Language Centre operates during Term 3 and 4, from July – December each year. We provide intensive English for our International students right here at Warrandyte High School. This forms the best preparation for their entry into the Warrandyte High School mainstream school after 6 months. Students receive intensive instruction in English in the areas of Mathematics and Science also.
Extra-curricular activities
Apart from a strong academic program Warrandyte High School can also offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities to help develop a well-rounded student. These include a vibrant instrumental music program, yearly musical productions, cross year level camps such as the Great Victorian Bike Ride and World Team Challenge, sporting teams and community fund raising events such as The Relay for Life. There are also many student leadership programs that occur throughout the year such as the Duke of Edinburgh and Compass programs.
